Follow Madagascar’s changing landscapes from Antananarivo to Andasibe’s indri forests, through the central highlands and Ranomafana, across Isalo’s sandstone massifs and onwards to Ifaty.
This focused RN7 journey combines locally guided wildlife walks, community connections, dramatic scenery and time to slow down beside the ocean.
Arrive in Madagascar’s capital, where your guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. Settle in before meeting the guide and driver who will accompany you through the journey.
Your welcome meeting introduces the local team, practical information and the rhythm of travelling through Madagascar.
First impressions of the highland capital and its layered cityscape.
Leave the capital and travel east into the rainforest landscapes of Andasibe. Settle into Mantadia Lodge, close to Analamazaotra and Mitsinjo reserves.
An optional night walk in the community forest supports local conservation and guiding.
Look for nocturnal chameleons, frogs, insects and other forest wildlife.
Walk through protected rainforest in search of the indri, whose calls can travel through the forest for kilometres. Explore trails rich in lemurs, birds, orchids and amphibians.

Early morning offers the best chance to photograph active indri and forest wildlife.
Pause at Mantadia Lodge and choose your own pace. Relax at the herbal spa, enjoy the lodge or return to the community forest after sunset.

Travel from Antananarivo into the cool central highlands. Antsirabe is known for its boulevards, colourful pousse-pousses, workshops, thermal heritage and lively streets.

Drive through countryside and mountain landscapes to Ranomafana, a rainforest town known for its protected forest and thermal waters.

Explore trails through tropical rainforest in search of lemurs, endemic birds and other wildlife. Routes range from shorter circuits to more demanding walks through primary forest.
